"I thought I was looking for a routine for oil painting—not acrylics or watercolor, and not paper. The canvases I saw in Berlin cannot be found in Tokyo. So I had to make my own. When I started, everything failed. I stretched cotton cloth on wooden frames, but it did not work well. I was afraid of animal glue, could not stand the smell of thinner, could not control the brushes, and was overwhelmed by the heavy paint. Could laundry starch be a substitute for glue?

After many twists and turns, and over several years, I discovered a DIY oil painting method that I can manage on my own. This zine focuses mainly on illustration and explains the DIY method that I found most satisfactory. I am still experimenting and researching." ー Kikuyo
